Level III plates are tested against 7.62mm x 51 FMJ (M80 military) weighing 147 grain and a muzzle velocity of 2,780 ft/s. 7.62mm x 39 FMJ fired from an AK-47 style rifle or a sniper rifle and  will stop all 5.56mm and 7.62mm bullets except military-grade armor-piercing ammo.
